If you are a German born and your birth is registered with German government, it is very easy to get a copy of your German birth certificate. If you are also citizen of some other country, for example America and your parents have registered your birth with American embassy in Germany you can even get your German birth certificate along with a copy of Consular Report of Birth. There are two ways to get a German birth certificate, one is you may do it by yourself and the other is to contact some organization or third-party to do it for you on payment.

First you have to collect the complete birth information such as birth name of the child, place of birth, date of birth of the child, father's name, etc. You will need all these to get a German birth certificate of a person. Now you have to determine which one is the correct registrar office according to your place of birth. If you can speak German, you can make a request for the birth certificate over a phone call, otherwise you have to make a written request to get the certificate.

In Germany the registrar is known as Standesamt. You have to send your letter to Standesamt. Also enclose $2.00 as postage and your address for reply in your letter. Make sure that you mail sufficient postage with the letter.

If you are an American citizen, you will also get a copy of the Consular Report of Birth. You can visit State Department's Office or website, follow the given instructions and get a copy of Consular Report of Birth.

You can contact the relevant registrar's office via mail or phone and ask for a German birth certificate. Provide them with the details of birth and ask them for a copy.
